CCTV Compliant Signage

In the UK, CCTV signage must comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR regulations, particularly if the CCTV system is used for surveillance that records identifiable individuals. Signage is a key part of compliance and must inform people that they are being recorded.

What must CCTV signage in the UK include?

A compliant CCTV sign should clearly display the following:

  1. That CCTV is in operation
    • Wording like: “CCTV in operation” or “Images are being recorded for the purposes of crime prevention and public safety.”
  2. The purpose of the surveillance
    • Example: “Images are recorded for crime prevention and public safety.”
  3. Who operates the system
    • The name of the organisation or individual responsible.
  4. Contact details
    • A phone number, website, or email address for more information or to make a subject access request (SAR).
  5. Visibility
    • Signs must be clearly visible and readable, especially at the entrances to areas under surveillance.

Here we have some professional signage that we can provide upon request, these signs were printed with the client’s information on.(we have removed due to GDPR)
